Physiotherapy
Physios use exercises to help Toby gain and keep the best possible use of his body. They also try to prevent the development of deformities. Toby attends physio at Castlehill Special School and carries out daily exercises inbetween sessions.
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapists work with Toby to increase his ability to cope with the tasks presented by everyday life. OT's also advise on special equipment to make his life easier. They advise us on how to position and handle Toby. This is important for Toby as good handling techniques and seating can prevent or minimise future problems.
Speech therapy
Toby's speech therapist currently adivses us on feeding difficulties, because eating involves similar mouth and tongue control to speaking.
Play therapy
Until Toby turned 3 he attended Play Therapy once a week at the Ellerslie Development Centre, the session encouraged development through creative and therapeutic play.
Portage
Portage visitited Toby at home weekly until he began school. Portage is a home-visiting educational service for pre-school children with additional support needs and their families. Portage work with families to help them develop a quality of life and experience for themselves and their young children in which they can learn together.
