Gross & Fine Motor Skills
Toby has increased lower tone in his limbs.
He is able to support his head but is not able to sit independently.
He is no longer able to roll from his back to his front.
He can no longer raise his head and chest when lying on his tummy.
Toby wears splints on the lower part of his legs.
He can no longer weight bear in a standing position when supported by an adult.
Toby can no longer be placed in various kneeling positions or maintain these with support.
He is dependent on support for all transfers.
Toby can swipe & reach for objects dangled in front of him.
Toby currently shows preference for using his left hand, however also uses his right hand on occasion.
Toby has been having switch training at Castle Hill Special School & is now able to locate & press some simple switches.

Toby has visual impairment & alternating squints. His squint has been treated twice with botox which has successfully brought Toby's eyes into the correct position.
Toby has delayed visual maturation. The extent to which he uses his vision is inconsistent. He has been able to find visiual stimulus & follow them in all directions.
He has been able to show awareness for coloured light when placed up to a meter away.
Toby uses his mouth to explore objects.

Social & Communication Skills
Toby has attended social groups since he was a baby & appears happy in the company of others & responds positively to social interactions, particularly with those he is familar with.
Toby has a positive relationship with his mummy who is very in tune with his emotions. Toby makes most eye contact with his mum. Although there are some days when he does not make eye contact at all.
Toby likes grabbing his mummys glasses off her face & touching her mouth & hair.
Toby communicates when he is enjoying something by smiling & laughing.
Toby is finding ways to communicate. He makes vocalisations, often at appropriate times, although not always consistently.
Toby takes cues from his routine & often anticipates actions from familiar activities. He enjoys bathtime & will often show pleasure whilst his parents get him ready to go in the bath.

Toby responds well to routines & predictability of the activities presented to him during his play sessions.
He likes songs & action rhymes & can be encouraged to join in through the use of physical support.
Toby needs one-to-one adult support to engage in focused play activities.
When he is well, he is able to give his attention to a directed activity for a few minutes.
He is currently enjoying playing with simple cause & effect toys.
Toby is able to show preference between toys by reaching out & grabbing.
Toby enjoys playing with familar toys at home & can develop preferences for particular toys, engaging repetitive activities.
